Law graduate turned master forger nabbed by police

Police arrested D Raghothaman (45), who is a law graduate, following complaints from the authorities of Indian Overseas Bank. A CCB team took more than one-and-a-half years to zero in on this forger, who police said had cheated several banks using forged government documents. 

According to the complaint lodged by the IOB, Raghothaman approached the Kilpauk Garden Branch and availed a loan of nearly Rs 10 lakh for purchase of printing equipment for his firm “Jai Arts Digital Banner and Printing Press.’ 

However, after availing of  the loan, he went absconding and did not repay the loan. When the bank authorities went in search of Raghothaman, they found out that the original proprietor of the said printing press was someone else. Later, when the bank officials scrutinized the documents submitted by the accused, they found out that he had forged every document submitted to the bank.

Police said Raghothaman forged address proof, ID proof, account statements, PAN card, ration card, voter ID and company profile to cheat banks and availed of huge loans. He had even produced fake tax returns in the name of the printing press to IOB while availing of the loan for Rs 10 lakh. 

CCB has launched a detailed investigation into the activities of Raghothaman and are trying to find out who helped him to forge these documents with such precision. Police suspect that he could be the part of a major racket. 

Central govt staff held for financial fraud: 

 Avadi Tank Factory police on Thursday arrested the assistant cashier of Combat Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE), a central government institution, for siphoning off Rs 22,49,538 from the EPF account of other employees. B Venkataraman (32) has been remanded in judicial custody. Police said they started investigating following a complaint from G Venkatesh, Chief Accountant of the institution.
