Corporation intensifies fever surveillance

An official from the Health Department said that while the civic body has been monitoring cases of fever, the efforts will be stepped up for the next 15 days. 

“Public health and medical service personnel have already started monitoring fever cases as well as diarrhoea and respiratory complaints, in vulnerable parts of the city. We are looking at the type of cases reported and sending our teams for action. 

The cases of fever being reported in Chennai have not been alarming,” said the official.  

“There are other risk factors, such as intermittent rain, which cause more breeding sources and the months between July and September are the season for the vector borne diseases to multiply. Due to the combination of factors, we have intensified our surveillance efforts. 

In addition, the Corporation has been taking necessary containment measures in the city, in 2,000 blocks for this purpose,” added the  official.
