    Police protection after clash between water tanker crew, public

    Violence broke out on Tuesday night after aggrieved members of public who sought Metro water thronged the pumping station and clashed with drivers of water tanker lorries after they allegedly declined to supply water.

    The drivers of Metro Water tanker lorry drivers on Wednesday staged a sit-in protest at Valluvar Kottam Metro Water Tank seeking protection from public. Sources said that people gathered in large numbers at the Kilpauk water tank on Tuesday night and asked the drivers to supply water to them immediately. The drivers resisted leading to an altercation. 

    A few drivers are said to have been attacked in the melee. So, the drivers refused to supply water in lorries on Wednesday morning until police protection was given to them. After police personnel were posted at the tank premises and assured drivers’ of their safety, the protest was withdrawn.
