The incident took place around 10 am at Hindu Union Committee Higher Secondary School on T K Mudali Street, Choolai and the student Santhosh Kumar (17) of Pulianthope was first rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and then transferred to a private hospital in the same locality.
Dr Chokalingam of Muthu Hospital, who attended the case, said that Santhosh Kumar is fine to be discharged. Santhosh Kumar’s parents — Mohan and Kuppu — are daily wagers. However, there are two different versions about why Santhosh Kumar jumped off the floor.
While the school administration refused to comment on the issue, police said that the student did it since there were issues in his family. But Santhosh Kumar, who is in the science stream, blamed three teachers, including the principal of the school Chellapandian, of torturing students.
“We are terrified of our maths teacher, Raman. He abuses students both physically and verbally. He joined just two months ago, but students would bunk schools to escape from him,” he said. Santhosh Kumar said that on Saturday Raman hit him for no reason and made abusive remarks about his family.
“When I opposed, he started hitting me and was joined by another teacher Ramesh and principal. They didn’t even let me go to the toilet. So, just to escape from them, I tried to jump,” he said. Santhosh Kumar’s sister Sangeetha said that while she is relieved that his brother escaped without any injuries even after the fall and demanded action against the rude teachers.
