Internal audit manager, Munna Imran too shared his bill on social media, the day it was implemented. “It was to share an awareness on how simple GST has been made. Without much complications of VAT, cess, service charge, etc.,” he said.

Shiva Kishore said that he has been trying to understand how GST affected various facets of life. “So I try to take photos of bills, while eating out or grocery shopping, to see how each aspect gets impacted,” pointed out the 30-year-old IT professional.

    R. Mukesh, said, “We already pay so much for the parking tickets in malls. I was surprised to learn that I was charged 18 per cent GST on a parking ticket.

It was no where mentioned in the list that was floating online that parking will also become expensive.” When asked,  D Arvind, Managing Partner of DAA LLP, explained saying,  “This is a service relating to temporary renting of immovable property liable to GST  at the rate of 18  per cent. Since the place of supply is Chennai and the provider of service is also in the city, it is an intra state supply liable for GST where tax is payable to both the Centre and the State at equal proposition of 9 per cent each.” Another tax expert said the Integrated GST or IGST would be levied and collected by the Centre on inter-State supply of goods and services.

Such a tax shall be levied and collected by the Centre and apportioned between the Union and the States as stipulated by the recommendations of the Goods and Services Tax Council.
