Fee for engineering colleges revised
Considering the fee revision proposals submitted by the colleges and the request of colleges, the Committee on Fixation of Fee in respect of self-financing professional colleges revised its fee for the UG Engineering courses for 2017-2018.
Chennai
According to the new fee structure, the colleges will charge Rs 50,000 per annum (for non- accredited courses) and Rs 55,000 (for accredited courses) for government quota. On the other hand, when it comes to management quota, students will have to pay Rs 85,000 per annum for non-accredited courses and Rs 87,000 for accredited courses. Justice NV Balasubramanian fixed the fee during the last revision in 2012-2013.
Here, in the government quota, the fees for the non-accredited was set as Rs 40,000 per annum and for the accredited courses the cost was Rs 45,000 per annum. For the management quota, the non-accredited courses cost Rs 70,000 per annum and the same for accredited courses.
“The fee revision usually happens every three years. However, the recent one took long. The hike is nominal and long pending. It has been done after discussing with the representatives of the self-financing colleges,” said an official from the Higher Education Department.
However, students said with the implementation of GST, the other expenses do increase. “Apart from the tuition fees, we are expected to pay hostel fees, transportation fees, canteen expenditure and all. Though the raise is nominal, we are concerned that we will have to pay extra for the other expenditures,” said Prithvi Kumar, a student.
