Impostor cops escape with 21 sovereigns

 A gang impersonating policemen had hoodwinked an elderly woman and escaped with 21 sovereigns of gold in Selaiyur. Police said Vijayalakshmi of Selaiyur, was intercepted by the gang when she went to a temple. The men, who introduced themselves as policemen, told Vijayalakshmi that it would not be safe for her to walk with ornaments. They then asked her to remove her jewellery and offered to bundle them in a piece of paper, saying she could safely carry them back home.  The woman removed her jewellery and they wrapped it and returned it to Vijayalakshmi. When she reached home and checked the packet, she found stones inside. She then lodged a complaint with the police.
