Yogesh Kumar and Padmini were married in 2016. Within two months, Padmini claimed to have become pregnant. However, medical reports revealed it was a tumour, but Padmini did not disclose this either to her husband or in-laws’ and continued to fake her pregnancy after moving to her parents’ home in Egmore.
On January 11, 2017, Padmini told Yogesh that she gave birth to a boy at the Government Hospital for Women and Children, Egmore, and even before her husband could reach the hospital, Padmini came home with the baby.
“There was no umbilical cord on the newborn and Padmini did not look she had just delivered of a baby. It was then that we suspected that something was wrong,” Yogesh told DTNext.
A week later, Yogesh took his wife to the Primary Health Centre in Kilpauk to confirm if she had been pregnant. “The doctors there confirmed that Padmini had not been pregnant,” Yogesh said. Yogesh approached the Kilpauk police, but they refused to take his complaint.
Only after he produced proof of his being cheated, did the cops register a case on February 9. The case was later transferred to Egmore police station.
Yogesh also approached the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Siva Jayakumar who took up the case. “I found out that Padmini had approached a broker who arranged for a newborn from West Delhi for a price,” Jayakumar said.
