    Traffic diversions introduced at the Loyola subway due to repair works has resulted in chaos and long traffic jams along the stretch especially during peak hours, commuters complain.

    Several motorists who were unclear of the traffic diversions complained that even police personnel present along the route did not help in clearing the pile up. “As the Loyola subway has been partially closed and only one-way traffic is allowed, there is a huge pile up at the Poonamallee High Road junction during peak hours. We spend a long time passing through the junction since the traffic changes have been made,” said Mani, a resident of T Nagar who commutes to his office in Vepery along the route. 

    According to the police, MTC buses and heavy vehicles coming from EVR Salai towards Loyola Subway had been diverted at EVR SalaiNelson Manickam Road Junction to Aminjikarai to Harrington Point to– New Avadi Road Junction to Ega Junction to Gengu Reddy Junction to take a right turn to Gengu Reddy Subway to– East Spur Tank Road  to take a right turn to Spur Tank Road and left to Sterling Point and further left turn to College Road and reach their destination. 

    Other vehicles coming from EVR Salai — Nelson Manickam Road Jn towards Loyola Subway were diverted at Nelson Manickam Road—Metha Nagar Junction (Sobhan Babu Statue) to take a left turn to Metha Nagar Main Road to Officers Colony 1st Street to New Bridge to Venkatachalapathy Street and right to Harrington Road. When contacted, a senior police official said that they were studying the changed route plan and if the problem persists, some changes might be introduced.
