Pachaiyappa’s College students clash on Day 1
The Kilpauk police on Friday picked up 36 students from Pachaiyappa’s College following a complaint from college principal Kaliraj, that his car’s windshield was allegedly damaged in stone pelting by students.

Police said there was a clash between two groups of students (seniors and juniors) on the college premises on the reopening day on Friday. Both the groups started pelting stones at each other. The principal’s car was caught in the melee and suffered damage to the windshield.
However, the principal escaped unhurt. Police said the clash broke out after the two groups vied with each other to garland the statue of Pachaiyappa on the campus. Kaliraj informed the police and based on his complaint, the police picked up 36 students.
Bus Day celebrations stopped
The Triplicane police arrested three students of Presidency College and chased away others when tried to celebrate Bus Day, violating the High Court ban. A group of students tied a banner in front of a bus plying on route 27H and began singing and dancing on the roof of the vehicle. This caused nuisance to other commuters.
Bus stopped on Bells Road
On information, personnel from the Triplicane police station rushed to the spot and stopped the bus on Bells Road. When the team tried to clear the students from the spot, they ran in different directions. As a result, traffic on was affected for some time on Bells Road. Students who were inside the bus were also chased away. Police then arrested three who allegedly began the celebrations again. They were released later in the evening.
Pudukkai woman alleges human trafficking
Panchavarnam (59) from Pudukottai on Friday approached the commissioner of police seeking action against travel agent Dhanapal, who runs a recruitment agency, and his associates alleging human trafficking. She alleged that Dhanapal and his associates based in Tiruchy sent her 37-year-old daughter to Saudi Arabia as a house maid on tourist visa where she was tortured. She said her daughter, a mother of three children, reached Saudi Arabia on June 7. She had called up her mother on June 10, and told her mother that she had been denied food and made to work round the clock. The woman also complained about physical torture by the house owner.
