Science circus, an event, organised by the Australian High Commission, in partnership with the National Council for Science Museums (NCSM) and the Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre, is coming to Chennai where science communicators Dr Graham Walker and Dr Stuart Kohlhagen will conduct workshops to make science learning fun for students and teachers.

A look at the YouTube videos of these geeks makes even  adults understand science better. Walker, in one of his experiments, mixes vinegar and baking soda and as the container pops, he explains how the carbon-dioxide bubbles create pressure making the container pop. He goes on to bigger containers and even making make-shift cannons.

Walker is an academic coordinator at Australian National University. Kohlhagen, on the other hand, is a senior fellow at Questacon and has worked there since 1979. “We’re looking forward to spreading some exciting, interactive, intriguing science right across India,” said Walker.

The shows have everything from vacuum cleaner bazookas to liquid nitrogen powered kangaroos. We even reveal some physics secrets of how Australian cricketers practise,” he said.

Jon Bonnar, Deputy Consul General, Australian Consulate General, Chennai, said, “We are delighted to bring Dr Graham Walker and Dr Stuart Kohlhagen from the Australian National University in Canberra.”

The duo will travel to 10 cities and interact with students through the workshop. The event is happening at Periyar Science and Technology Centre, BM Birla Planetarium, on June 14 at 9.30 am, 11 am and 12.30 pm.
