While there was speculation that Tamil Nadu might get a flexi pricing on tickets, Abirami Ramanathan, President of Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners and Distributors Association and the President of Tamil Nadu Film Chamber of Commerce told DTNext, “I do not believe that theatre collections will take a hit after July 1. People who are paying Rs 100 will pay Rs 128.”

However, Ramanathan said that this might affect low-budget films. “People are willing to pay any price for a well-made high budget film or a movie with a huge star cast.

However, I wonder if they might want to spend a lot of money for a film made on a low-budget. Even a movie with a good story might fail. We will know the situation only after the new tariffs are implemented,” he said.

Talking about the flexi pricing that Telangana has been given, he said, “They have that privilege, we don’t. If movies keep failing, we might raise our concern in the future.”
