‘Threat to Tamilisai came from Mumbai’

Police said that the cover was originally sent from Egmore post office. ‘We have sent a team to Egmore to trace the persons who have sent the parcel from the post office there,’ sources said. 

The BJP leader filed a complaint at Virugambakkam police station after she received two threat calls, a letter and a ‘bomb pin’. 

Sources said that miscreants had sent two parcels - one to her residence and another to the party office in T Nagar. Tamilisai opened the parcel that was sent to her residence on June 6 and informed the police about it. 

The party leader’s personal assistant Kanaga, who resumed her duty after she returned from vacation, opened the post that was sent to the office last evening. “She found a letter and a bomb pin in the parcel. Soon, she complained to the local police about it,” police said.

The police conducted investigations and found that a mobile number used to threaten Tamilisai was traced and it belonged to a person in Mumbai. Police suspect that a Tamilian living in Mumbai could have made threat calls to her.

“A special team is likely to be sent to Mumbai to probe the case. But only after investigation we will be able to identify the miscreants,” an official said. 

“A sheet of paper inside the envelope was laced with a type of explosive chemical, usually found in firecrackers and a probe is on,” a senior police officer said. 

“The letter contained abusive language against the BJP leader. A wick was attached to the explosive laced paper and it was perceived to symbolise a bomb threat,” the officer said. 

“The letter received at party office appeared to be a copy of the letter that I got at my residence,” she said.
