Clean bathrooms, hygienic rooms a boon
The lack of bathrooms had always been a major cause for concern for women, until the Corporation introduced 10 night shelters in six Government Hospitals in March this year.

With a number of patients being admitted in these hospitals for months, the attenders, mainly women, were in need of facilities, which included bathrooms and clean toilets, to meet their hygiene needs. “My husband was initially admitted here for renal transplant two years ago. We have had to come to the hospital every week for dialysis, since then. I used to sleep in the waiting area and use the toilet in my husband’s ward every morning. I had to wake up every morning at 5 am and go to my husband’s ward to help clean him up. Prior to that, I had to bathe to avoid carrying any bacteria,” said A Jeevitha, of Coimbatore, whose husband is admitted in the Nephrology Block at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH). “It was very difficult until the shelter came up,” she added.
