Justice M Duraiswamy, before whom the petition filed by Kulandairaj of Thuraiyur of Tiruchy district, came up on Tuesday directed the Home Secretary to file a reply within six weeks.
The book’s author Kulandairaj contended that while the book is based on historical investigation containing the true story of Madurai Veeran and speaks about his bravery, the Home Department had issued a Government Order on August 19, 2015, declaring the book’s forfeiture.
Pointing out that the government order claims that the writing carries demanding description and disparaging remarks against certain communities and is likely to cause disharmony, feeling of enmity, hatred and illwill between different communities, he said there is nothing in the book that is abusive and so far, there has neither been any opposition to the book nor any disturbance to public tranquillity.
He said the book, which depicts the history of Madurai Veeran, who is a Tamil folk deity popularly known in Southern Tamil Nadu was published by Adhi Thamizhar Peravai and 2,000 copies have already been sold. He also noted that the ban brings humiliation to his creative writing.
Facebook sleaze row: Police told to give final report in 4 weeks
Even as Facebook claims to have updated its community standards guidelines on the content it allows or bans on its service, a clash between a woman advocate and a Mahila Congress member over posting of pornographic videos on FB has reached the portals of the Madras High Court.
Justice R Mahadevan, before whom the criminal original petition moved by the Woman Advocate T Selvi Prabu came up for hearing, directed Kumaran Nagar Police to file the final report within four weeks on an FIR filed against one Hasina Syed, a Mahila Congress member and her brother Umar on February 2, 2017, for posting sleaze photos and videos on the advocate’s FB account.
The woman lawyer in her plea had contended that Hasina Syed had befriended her on FB and introduced her to several people, who were reportedly part of a massage center, which she owned. But thereafter, the lawyer was receiving hard pornographic videos and vulgar slogans.
“Following this, I warned them not to post such sleaze on my FB account. But instead of stopping, they turned aggressive and started posting my photographs with some unknown persons with vulgar comments damaging my modesty,” Selvi said.
She also submitted that following her complaint to the Kumaran Nagar police, the accused were summoned for inquiry. But, Hasina along with her brother Umar started threatening her in front of the police.
However, police registered a case under sections of the Information Technology Act and SC/ ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1984. “But, since no action was taken thereafter, I have no option but to approach the court,” Selvi added.
