The overall pass percentage, however, dipped to 90.95% from 96.21% last year. This year, 16,67,573 candidates had appeared for the exam.
Educationists attributed the drop in pass percentage to the Maths paper. “The Class 10 CBSE portion is divided into three parts. The quarterly and midterm portions are not part of the final exam. This year students found the Maths paper very difficult and that could be the reason for the drop in pass percentage,” educationist S Somasundaram said.
CBSE had earlier announced that it would re-introduce board exams for Class 10 from 2018.
Fifteen-year-old Pranav Krishna, a student of Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram, said, “Though the results were announced a bit late, I was very happy with my performance as my GPA is 10/10 (grade point 10 in all subjects). I worked hard throughout the year and ensured that I took all the internal examinations seriously.”
Saraveshan Srikumar of DAV Boys, Mogappair, whose GPA is also 10/10 and who aims to becoming a CA, said, “The key to perform well in the Class 10 boards is to have good scores in all the internal examinations as 70 per cent is allotted for the internal assessment and the rest for the final board exam.” Interestingly, boys outshone girls and recorded a pass percentage of 93.4 % jumping from last year’s 78.9 per cent.
