Stock water, can manufacturers on strike
The availability of packaged water in the city is likely to be hit as water can manufacturers have called for a strike from Sunday evening to protest against the proposed 18% tax on them under the Goods and Service Tax (GST) regime.

Hearing about the strike, residents in the city have already started to stock water cans fearing possible shortage of filled water cans. They want the State government to act swiftly and ensure that the strike ends at the earliest.Â
The sudden decision of the can manufacturers to go on strike has shocked many as people rely on packaged water cans in the summer due to the drying up of water bodies, especially after the failure of monsoon. Those in the trade are demanding withdrawal of 18% tax proposed for them in the GST.Â
