Speaking to DTNext, Dr S Balachandran, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, said they were closely monitoring the meteorological activities. “There will be no rains in the city for the next two days. Though low pressure, which was formed on Friday over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining area of Central Bay of Bengal, now lies as a well-marked low-pressure area over Eastcentral and adjoining Westcentral and Southeast Bay of Bengal, it will not give rainfall to the state,” he said. However, interior districts would record rains due to heat waves.

According to RMC website, an associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level. “Conditions are becoming favourable for the further advancement of the Southwest monsoon into some more parts of Southwest and East-central Bay of Bengal and remaining parts of the Southeast Bay of Bengal in the next 3-4 days,” it said, while adding that with the strengthening of Westerlies and Northward shift of shear zone, conditions are also becoming favourable for the spread of Southwest monsoon into some parts of South Arabian sea, entire Maldives Comorin area and South Kerala from May 30 to 31.

Echoing the same predictions, weather bloggers say that temperature in the city will be little higher than now. K Srikanth, a city based weather blogger, said “chances are high that the maximum temperature will go up to 40 degree Celsius to 41 for the next two days. Friday saw one of the most widespread thunderstorms in Peninsular India with large areas of the region coming under the effect of pre-monsoon thunderstorms.”
