Will focus on people-friendly policing: Commissioner of Police
New City Commissioner of Police, ADGP AK Viswanathan has promised to give more focus on people-friendly policing.

After assuming charge at the Commissionerate on Monday morning, Viswanathan told the media that people are welcome to approach police freely to air their grievances and the department will give priority to addressing such issues. “Their issues will be addressed at the earliest and people are free to approach police at any time,” he said.
The CoP also said he would continue all the good works of his predecessors and would strive to make police more accessible to people. Viswanathan also conducted meetings with his immediate sub-ordinates to assess the law and order and crime situation in the city.
He later called on Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy after assuming charge.
Viswanathan, who is the 104th police Commissioner of Chennai city and the third in the last 10 months, has served as an Additional Commissioner in Chennai in 2008. He had also held senior posts in state intelligence.
Viswanathan has a sound knowledge about all aspects of city policing. He also has experience of heading a Commissionerate as he was one of the longest serving Commissioners of Coimbatore city.
