A Chockalingam, Secretary, Anna Nagar Western Extension B Sector Association, who attended the inauguration, said that the service was welcomed by the residents.
“Despite being the first day, the officials ensured that the public, who had come for the inauguration, were taken for a round trip across the new line. We travelled from Thirumangalam to Nehru Park and Koyambedu and back. Because of the crowd, I was standing during the ride, which was a pleasant experience. The service is comfortable and people could travel without a hassle. I think that this service will add to Anna Nagar’s appeal and will be very beneficial to the residents, to access other parts of the city,” said the senior citizen.
Others, like S Gurunathan, a retired professor, who travelled on the underground line with his son, said, “Once the service is extended to Egmore and Central, it will be easier for residents of Anna Nagar to access Broadway and nearby areas of the city. Now, there is the 7F bus series but it is very crowded and takes a long time. Autorickshaws and taxies are expensive. Once the metro line is completed, residents can travel to these areas comfortably,” added the 65-year-old resident of Park Road in Anna Nagar Western Extension.
Sneha, an IT professional, added that the service is convenient. “Instead of taking the bus, one can use the metro line and reach the destination much faster. Now there are more options for residents to travel,” concluded this 29-year-old resident of Shanthi Colony.
