In the first incident on Saturday night, Sampath, a flower vendor, and his family were sleeping on the terrace of their house adjacent to the Kancheepuram Kamatchi Amman Koil.

Around midnight, burglars broke open the front door lock and took away 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 10,000 in cash.

The Kancheepuram police have registered a case and are investigating further.

In the second incident, the house of Santharaman, a resident of Vishnupriya Avenue, Guduvanchery, had gone to his native village along with his family a few days ago.

On returning home on Sunday morning, they found the front door lock broken open and the valuables, kept inside a bureau, missing. In his complaint, Santharaman had told the Guduvanchery police that 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 10,000 in cash were missing from the house.

A case has been registered and further inquiry is on.
