    Diff-abled need better access

Around 2,306 students with disabilities wrote the Higher Secondary Exams this year, out of whom 2,052 passed. Around 92  per cent of visually impaired students passed and the pass percentage of hearing and speech-impaired was 78.74%. Around 88% physically challenged students cleared the exams.  Activists say that their performance could have been better if the right provisions had been made.

“Many of the schools, which are centres for the examinations, don’t have provisions for persons with disability. There are no ramps and children face a lot of accessibility issues to reach these places,” says S. Namburajan, State General Secretary, Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Abled & Caregivers, TARATDAC.
