    A 1990 batch IPS officer, Viswanathan had held several senior positions including that of Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) here and Commissioner of Coimbatore city police.

    In a key reshuffle, senior IPS officer A K Viswanathan was today appointed as city Commissioner of Police replacing Karan Singha.

    A 1990 batch IPS officer, Viswanathan had held several senior positions including that of Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) here and Commissioner of Coimbatore city police.

    Viswanathan had also been on deputation with the CBI and had served as Superintendent of police in districts.

    Before his present posting, he was Additional Commandant General, Home Guards here.

    Singha was posted as police commissioner by Election Commission on March 25 last ahead of the April 12 R K Nagar bypoll that was cancelled subsequently.

    He has now been named member, TN Uniformed Services Recruitment Board replacing Sunil Kumar Singh who will take over as Additional Commandant General, Home Guards.

    M V Jayagowri, Superintendent of Police, Cyber cell, CB-CID is now Chief Security Officer, Chennai Metro Rail replacing A Kayalvizhi who is posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police Commissioner of Tirupur.

    Including Viswanathan and Singha, a total of 17 police officers were transferred.
