Medical aspirants consider studying overseas

“We have been getting frequent calls since NEET was announced but the number of calls has almost doubled since Sunday. Many students from Tamil Nadu were skeptic about their performance and are unsure if they would get decent seats. The best and probable option for them is to study abroad,” says S Sheela from Study Abroad Consultancy in Nungambakkam.

Countries like Germany, Russia, China and Philippines are the popular destinations for studying MBBS. “I am not sure if I will get a decent college as I have not performed as well as I wanted to, in NEET. I am willing to take an education loan and study abroad as it will give me better exposure,” says Poorva S., a state board student. 

For MBBS graduates to come and work in India, they have to pass the Medical Council of India screening test . “There are only limited medical seats. All aspirants cannot be accommodated and this leads to many students applying abroad. If they are passionate about the profession, they can pass the test. Countries like Russia and China are cheaper compared to other countries and are much sought after,” says educationalist Somasundaram.
