Anna University teachers to boycott convocation
Members of Anna University Teachers’ Association comprising over 400 teachers have unanimously decided to boycott the 37th convocation to be held on May 19.
Chennai
They have demanded the signature of the Vice Chancellor on the degrees to be conferred and not that of the Higher Education secretary. They have also decided to abstain from the Tamil Nadu Common Engineering Admission related work.Â
“We want to send out a strong message. Over 400 teachers from the association along with other teachers are supporting this. The Vice Chancellor signing the degrees is part of our tradition,” Arul Aram, president of AUTA, said, adding, “A degree is not required for finding jobs or applying for colleges within the country. It is only for those going abroad. To benefit a few students, traditions must not be changed.”Â
The following resolutions were adopted unanimously at the general body meeting of the AUTA.
