SS Rajamouli’s epic period drama Baahubali 2: The Conclusion has seen unprecedented box office collections, by making a whopping Rs 540 crore in just three days. The top grossers in Bollywood so far have been Dangal and Sultan, which collected Rs 374 and Rs 206 respectively.

According to trade sources, the 540 crore collections comprises Rs 415 crore in India and Rs 125 crore from the overseas markets, especially in the UAE, United States of America and Europe. The shows are expected to run to full houses for the next couple of weeks in India. What is remarkable is that Baahubali 2 was counted as one of the top three releases in the North American box office as well.
Talking to DTNext, trade analyst Ramesh Bala said, “Going by the current rate of collections and the number of screens booked, Baahubali 2 is all set to collect Rs 1,000 crore by next week. This is the first Indian movie to collect Rs 500 crore worldwide and it is expected to break all records and be declared a Rs 1,000 crore grosser.”
In Tamil Nadu, the movie collected approximately Rs 68 crore, and the combined collections of the Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu versions are at Rs 180 crore. “If the early morning shows on April 28 were not cancelled, it could have easily minted another Rs 5 crore,” said Trinath, another trade analyst, who feels there’s no stopping the film at the box office. The Hindi version alone has collected Rs 181 crore in its opening weekend.
Critics and even producers feel that Baahubali has changed the dynamics of Indian cinema. G Dhananjayan, columnist and producer says, “Baahubali 2 has set a new benchmark in Indian cinema which is tough to beat. With the kind of quality in its VFX and even the content, the movie has certainly put pressure not only on megastars, from whom fans always have high expectations, but also on filmmakers to take Indian cinema to new heights on the global stage.”
