Neither the bus passengers nor the car driver were injured in the incident. Police said occupants of both the vehicles ventured out safely.

However, traffic on the arterial Anna Salai was affected for a while near Thousand Lights.

Police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area and diverted the traffic towards Gemini flyover from Thousand Lights area.

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) officials came to the spot and supervised the works to repair the damage.

Traffic police diverted the vehicles via Sathyam Theatre to Gopapalapuram to proceed on to the Gemini flyover.

“Fortunately for us, it happened on Sunday. As the volume of traffic was minimal, there was not much of traffic hold up after the road caved in around 2.10 pm,” a traffic police official said. The Anna Salai traffic investigation wing has registered a case.

Meanwhile, CMRL Managing Director P K Bansal told DTNext that they would pay compensation to the owners of the vehicles that suffered damages.
