Mediation mooted in Stayzilla case; hearing put off

Even as Yogendra Vasupal, co-founder of online home stay aggregator Stayzilla, has been in prison for over a fortnight on charges of cheating an advertising agency, the Madras High Court has suggested the parties to resolve the conflict through mediation.

When the bail plea moved by Vasupal came up for hearing on Monday, Justice S Baskaran suggested orally to try out an alternate redressal through mediation. However, the judge adjourned his bail plea to April 11 without passing any interim order on the request of the Additional Public Prosecutor.

It may be noted that on March 28, a similar bail petition moved by Vasupal was dismissed by the Principal Session Court, owing to objections from the City Public Prosecutor.

Similarly, a Special Court dealing with Central Crime Branch (CCB) cases also dismissed his bail plea on March 23. The CCB had arrested Vasupal on March 14, based on a complaint from CS Aditya of Jigsaw Advertising and Solutions Private Limited for offences under IPC sections dealing with criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal intimidation. As per the case, Stayzilla had failed to make payments for advertising services rendered by him since February 2016 and has defrauded him to the tune of Rs 1.69 crore.
