Justice R Mahadevan before whom the plea moved by Dinakaran challenging the refusal of the trial court on March 27 to defer his trial by six weeks since he is a candidate in the RK Nagar by-election, refused to pass any orders and instead held that the economic offences court-II could go ahead with trial. The case has been posted for further hearing to April 13.

Enforcement Directorate counsel Dhandapani told the court that the recall petition filed by Dinakaran against a single judge order setting aside his discharge from the case and restoring trial in two FERA violations case is yet to be even numbered.

However, on a query from the judge, Dhandapani submitted that they are only keen on conducting the trial pending for the past two decades and would not insist on Dinakaran’s personal appearance.

While one of the cases pertains to the transfer of 1.04 crore US dollars to Dipper Investment through Barclay Bank, Virgin Islands, the other relates to the transfer of 44.37 lakh Pounds through West Bank Limited, Ireland.
