The police said, seven students, all final year Electronics and Computer Engineering students of a private polytechnic in Kancheepuram, had come on a trip to Mahabalipuram as their classes are scheduled to end on March 30.Â
The students had been playing volleyball on the beach. When the ball fell into the sea, one student, Vijayakumar (20) was drawn inside the sea by a huge wave while trying to retrieve the ball. Meanwhile, his friends Venkatesh (20) and Ramki (20) rushed to help him but they too were drawn inside by a wave.Â
The Mamallapuram police along with the fire and rescue personnel and with the coastal police launched a search for the missing boys. The bodies of Venkatesh and Ramki have been washed ashore but Vijayakumar’s body is yet to be found.
