A day after son, dad ends life

Police said the teen victim was identified as Parthiban, a class 10 dropout, who worked at an electric hardware shop near his house. The teen was suspected to have taken the extreme step as he was distraught over the separation of his parents. 

On Wednesday evening, Parthiban doused himself with kerosene and set himself ablaze at his residence on Alagiri Samy Main Street, Periyar Nagar in Vyasarpadi. Neighbours rushed him to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital where he died without responding to treatment in the night. 

On Thursday morning, his father Pawalarayan (47), a driver, was found hanging inside a garland shop around 6.30 am near the entrance of the Perumal temple on BB Road, Perambur.

On information, police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem to Kilpauk Medical College. Police said, “The boy’s parents separated seven years ago and reunited two years back following the intervention of family and relatives. They lived together until three months ago, when Malar, Parthiban’s mother, again walked out of the house following a dispute with Pawalarayan. She returned to her hometown, Nemilichery, while Parthiban stayed back with his father. She returned on Wednesday after getting news of her son’s death.” 

The Sembium police have registered cases in connection with both the deaths. Further investigations are on.
