Gold stolen from techie’s house
In what appears to be a case of bureau pulling, burglars looted gold jewellery weighing 30 sovereigns from a house at Venkateshwara Nagar in Velachery.
Chennai
Sources said, Ram Prabhu (26), a techie at a private firm in Guindy was living with wife Lakshmi (23) and their one-year-old child on Fifth Street in Venkateshwara Nagar, Velachery.
On Saturday night, the family went for a movie at a theatre in Kumaran Nagar, Madipakkam. When they returned home around 1.30 am, they did not notice anything amiss with the cupboard in the bedroom. However, in the morning, they found the steel cupboard displaced and 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery kept inside missing.
“It was a light weight steel cupboard. The burglar could have jumped into the balcony and climbed on to the sun-shade. He could have opened the window and pulled the cupboard close using a string. Since it was steel, the cupboard would have moved smoothly without making any noise. The keys for the locker were kept on top of the cupboard, which made it easy for the thieves to take away the jewellery,” Joachim Jerry, Inspector of Police (crime) said.
Based on a complaint from Ram Prabhu, the police registered a case and are investigating to identify and arrest the burglar.
