Justice N Kirubakaran was dealing with a plea seeking to direct the State to appropriate 50 per cent of the seats in recognised post graduate degree and diploma courses.
The plea also sought to formulate a methodology for sharing of seats between government and non-governmental medical institutions while admitting students based on NEET, wondered as to whether the State doubted the quality of education it provided. “Do you feel that our students will not do better than students of other states? When other States have not objected to NEET, what is the reason for opposing it?” the judge questioned.
Also, coming down heavily on Medical Council of India for providing deemed universities licence to convert education into a lucrative business, he sought to know as to what MCI was doing in controlling the institutions like business firms.
