Sources said, K James Raj (50) of Avadi in Chennai along with his wife Mahalakshmi (44), brother Savurirajan (45), sister Sharmila (35) and Savurirajan’s wife Juli (35) were proceeding to Thanjavur to attend a funeral.Â
When they were nearing Valigandapuram in Peramabalur on the Tiruchy-Chennai bypass, a blue metal laden tipper lorry plying ahead of them suddenly changed lanes. Before Savurirajan, who was driving the car, could do anything the rear side of the lorry rammed the car. On information, the Mangalamedu police rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation with the help of nearby residents. They rushed Sharmila, Mahalakshmi and Juli to the Government Perambalur Hospital but Sharmila succumbed on the way.Â
Mahalakshmi and Juli were later referred to the Tiruchy GH. The police registered a case and arrested the lorry driver H Alex Pandian (26) of Senthurai in Ariyalur district. Further investigations are on.Â
