    Over 60 industry captains attend IIT alumni summit

    The Pan IIT Alumni Leadership Series (PALS), an education initiative undertaken by the IIT Alumni Centre, Chennai, has organised its annual summit on the theme ‘Engineering Education – Tuning to meet expectations’ with key speakers from MHRD, IIT, and Industry.

    Top management and faculty from more than 60 engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu participated in the event. Guest of Honour R Subrahmanyam, Additional Secretary, Technical Education, MHRD spoke on the policy perspective of the theme. He shared his thoughts on what changes and challenges are expected in the coming decade.

    Sunil Kumar, Director, IIT Palghat and Chief Guest spoke on the academic perspective in the event. He said “With an increasing emphasis on improving our nation’s manufacturing and service sector, the pressure on academic institutions to deliver quality manpower is higher than ever before”. 

    Speaking on the core industry perspective, Mr. Subramanian SR, Executive VP, L&T Ltd, expounded on the goals and opportunities for the Industry in India, and the quality of engineers needed for meeting their demands. Representing IT industry, Vasudevan, Head - Talent Acquisition, TCS, discussed the changing dynamics in the IT business, and how this has changed the capability expectations from the engineering graduates needed in this sector.
