O Panneerselvam launches online Amma education portal
An online portal www.ammkalviyagam.in in line with late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s VISION 2023 document was inaugurated by former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam at his Greenways Road residence on March 1.

“It aims to transform the state into an innovation hub and knowledge capital of the nation by 2023, through provision of quality education and skill development,” Paneerselvam said.
The portal was part of Jayalalithaa’s birth anniversary celebrations. Dedicating the portal, Paneeerselvam said, “It was Amma’s desire that the youth of Tamil Nadu should never be deprived of education and should have the best possible resources to empower them with the best of knowledge. With this launch, we have taken the first step in fulfilling Amma’s dreams of empowering TN youth.”
Amma Kalviyagam is MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) based and ensures a chance for students to learn from the best teachers anytime, anywhere. This would ensure a level playing field for rural and urban youth, as earlier, the former lacked the facilities the latter had. Thus, it would break time, distance and money barriers and would help students take up specialised courses from highly reputed teachers across the nation.
“Quality content through this project will equate economically weak students and their better off counterparts” Paneerselvam added. Speaking at the occasion, former School Education Minister K Pandiarajan said, “On this platform one can share content, assess oneself through quizzes, and improve critical thinking and communication skills. This is just the beginning, as we are already working on courses for competitive exams like IAS, TNPSC, Bank Exams, and will roll out the same in a phased manner.”
Currently courses help students prepare for various exams including those for IIT JEE and those appearing for Plus two board exams. Also available are special modules on employability skill development for college students. The website holds over 10,000 users simultaneously. ‘’It has such a strong server. So, users need not worry about tensions involved in last-minute preparations’,” Pandiarajan added.
