42 sovereigns recovered from 4 chain snatchers
While the police managed to nab four notorious chain snatchers in two different places on Saturday, a woman in Abhiramapuram lost her five sovereigns to chain stanchers on Sunday.

The Villivakkam police on Saturday arrested two notorious chain snatchers and recovered gold chains weighing 22 sovereigns, a two-wheeler, cell phones and Rs 350 from them.Â
A police team from Villivakkam, which was engaged in a vehicle checking at Thathankuppam near Kolathur, chased and caught a two-wheeler that did not stop and took the youths into custody. Later they were identified as R Arun Kumar (23) and J Nagarajan (23), both residents of Rajamangalam, Villivakkam. Police said the duo admitted to have committed several chain-snatching offences.Â
In another incident, the Teynampet police on Saturday arrested two notorious chain snatchers and recovered gold jewellery weighing 20 sovereigns from the duo. The Teynampet police, acting on increasing numbers of chain-snatching complaints, picked up a duo, who were found to be roaming on the Giri Road area in Teynapet on Saturday. When the police questioned them, they gave contradictory answers and police took them to the station for detailed interrogation and found out that they were involved in several chain-snatching incidents.
Meanwhile, a 45-year-old woman who was on her way to the temple lost her five sovereign weighing gold chain to snatchers at Abhiramapuram on Sunday morning. According to the police, Mallika, a resident of Abhiramapuram was on her way to the temple near her house to pray on the occasion of Sivarathri when two persons on a two wheeler came close to her and snatched her gold chain. Mallika then lodged a complaint with the police and police have lodged a hunt for the chain snatchers.Â
