It erected a board declaring that the posh bungalow, where the don and his family lived, now belonged to the ED.
The Enforcement Directorate has earlier announced the attachment of the properties of Sridhar Dhanapal’s family members, to the tune of Rs 21.37 crore, as they were acquired using the proceeds from criminal activities. It had already issued two provisional orders last year for the attachment of properties worth Rs 80 crore, belonging to his family members. “We have ordered attachment of 14 immovable properties in the latest order. The properties belong to his brother Senthil and Sridhar’s wife Kumari. We have started the attachment procedure of these properties one by one,” a senior Enforcement Directorate official told DT Next.
On Thursday afternoon, a team of ED officials issued the eviction notices to Sridhar’s wife Kumari at their posh bungalow on 1st Street, Ellappan Nagar, near Kancheepuram Collectorate. It has given 10 days’ time for his wife and two children to vacate the bungalow. “The family members co-operated with us when we issued the eviction notices. We have also erected a board in front of the bungalow, noting that the property belongs to the Enforcement Directorate,” Joint Director, Enforcement Directorate, KSVV Prasad told this newspaper. The family members will have to leave the house, which is valued around Rs. 3 crore, and the ED will take possession after 10 days. Sridhar Dhanapal is still absconding and has been skipping several summons issued by the ED. There is a warrant pending against him and red corner alert has been issued against the don.
ED had registered a case against Sridhar Dhanapal and his associates under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act, after the state police officials registered several cases, including 9 murder cases, 15 attempt to murder cases and cases of kidnapping, ransom and explosives cases against Sridhar Dhanapal.
