    Anna University promotes healthy food options on campus

    Students of Alagappa College of Technology (A C Tech), Anna University along with Aswat Eco Organic will be organising a fest to promote organic food on March 4 in the campus. The event titled ‘Manvasanai’ will have stalls providing organic food and hundreds of varieties of rice and herbs at the Vivekananda Auditorium in Anna University.

    Dean of the A C Tech S Sivanesan said, “The event was aimed to create awareness on organic food. Engineering students are very much interested in organic farming and many students are actually practising it on their land”. 

    Scientist Sultan Ismail, Organic farmers Pamayan, Nel Jayaraman and Krishnamoorthy, bio dynamic farmer Ariyanur Jayachandran and actress and social activist Rohini will be some of the special guests for the function. 

    Traditional games such as Silambam, Uriyadi, Parai, Therukkoothu and Karagattam will also be performed at the event. 

    Associate Professor, Centre for Food Technology, Anna University, G Nandhini Devi said, “The even will motivate students to come up with modern practices of organic farming in the future. The food fest is open to all. A State level workshop on Empowerment of Volunteerism is being jointly organised by the NSS wing of A C Tech along with RGNIYD (Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development), Sriperumbudur on March 2 and 3.

    Registration of TANCET exam extended 

    Anna University has extended the date for the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) 2017 to February 28. Candidates can only register online for the exam. A press release from the Centre for entrance examinations said, “The last date for registration of application through online for TANCET has been extended to February 28”. 

    A common entrance exam is held for admission for Post Graduate programmes such as MBA, ME (Master of Engineering), M Tech, M Arch, M Plan and MCA. This exam will be held on March 25, 26. Secretary of TANCET, P Malliga said, “The extension is given every as the registration is done only online and at the last minute there will be rush in registrations. So far, we have received 20,000 applications. By this time last year we had got 40,000 applications. With many private colleges offering these courses and as most of them are weekend programmes (for MBA), we have been seeing a decline in the number of applicants. This year we hope to receive at least 30,000 applications”. 

    The examinations will be conducted in 15 centres across the State. “The students can log on to www.annauniv.edu/tancet2017 as some nearby centres could be clubbed due to administrative reasons.”
