Sources told DTNext that the amount was allocated from the welfare fund of police personnel and cheques for the same were issued. Already 112 police personnel have received the cheques and the rest, who were on medical leave, would be getting it in due course.

Meanwhile, many of the personnel could not encash or deposit the cheques due to spelling errors.

A large number of personnel were expressing disappointment over the shoddy work by the administrative staff.

All of them had come from different parts of the city during duty hours to collect the cheques and they would have to come again to collect them after necessary corrections.

“We cannot go and stand in the line to encash these cheques as it will take a toll on duty hours. So we need to deposit the cheques and if the name does not correspond with the spelling in our account, the bank officials will reject them,” a policemen was heard explaining the clerical staff.

So many of the recipients of the cheques will have to pay another trip to the Commissioner’s office to get the amount.

Sources said the personnel would also get a compensation of Rs 50,000 if they were injured while on duty. “It will come, but might take a little time,” a senior officer said.
