Colour EPIC distribution marks Voters’ Day
The 7th National Voters Day was celebrated in the Ripon Building premises. Aim of the celebrations is to create awareness among people to enroll themselves in the voter list and to make the youth understand the importance of voting.

Audio message of Dr Nasim Zaidi, Election Commissioner of India message for the Voters Day was conveyed to the youth. Additional District Electoral officer and Chennai Collector P Maheswari read out the oath message for the Voters Day to the participants. As many as 82,666 new voters were added to the existing list.
New colourful voter identity cards were distributed to six new voters by District Election Commissioner K S Kandasamy, Additional District Election Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner (Education) M Govind Rao. National Voters Day was delivered by Assistant District Electorate officer and Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) V Anbuselvan.
Deputy Commissioner (Works) K S Kandasamy said, “National Voters Day is celebrated across India on January 25 and Greater Chennai Corporation too has organised a program here. There have been 85,000 new voters added to the electoral rolls. Today, we have presented the colour EPIC cards to a few of the first-time voters.”
20-year-old Fathima Ihshana, a 20-year-old college student who received the EPIC card on the stage, said she is inspired to be a part of the democratic protest. “I am eager to read more about the political situation in our state. I have been following the news but now, during the elections, I will make an extra effort to read the manifestos and vote for the right candidate,” she said. Ashwin Surya, a 19-year-old working as a delivery boy in a surgical equipment firm, is excited.
“We as citizens have certain responsibilities and voting is one of them. I am thrilled to get my Voter’s Id and look forward to doing my bit for our country’s future,” he concluded. The speech was followed by cultural programmes and oratorical competitons. Prizes were distributed to winners and participants. District Revenue Officer (Election) K Ramesh, Kasturi, General Administration and Public Service and Education Officer K Ranjani participated.
