Leader of Opposition seeks ouster of police top brass
Leader of Opposition M K Stalin has urged the state government to immediately transfer the city police commissioner and state and city intelligence chiefs for improper handling of protests and to ensure a fair probe into the same.

Reiterating his demand that the Governor should immediately order the constitution of a commission of inquiry headed by a sitting Madras High Court judge to probe the violence, which, he claimed, was perpetrated by the police, Stalin said the CCTV footages showing police involvement in vandalism in various areas in the city should be secured.
The footages, particularly the one revealing police engaging in arson and human rights violations, sufficiently demonstrate that the city and state police were struggling without a leader capable enough to guide them, he added.
Picking holes in the CoP’s defense, that anti-social elements had infiltrated the protest, the DMK working president accused the city police of trying to obscure the historic victory of students by alleging anti-national’s infiltration.
“If the police were aware of infiltration of anti-social elements, why did they not identify and arrest them during the previous six days when they had been providing protection to the students’ protests at Marina,” Stalin wondered.
