    Sasikala to lead M G Ramachandran centenary ceremony

    AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala will garland the statue of party founder MGR on his birth centenary and release a souvenir at the party headquarters.

    The function slated to be held at 10.45 am will also see her distributing Rs 1.04 crore at Rs 1 lakh each to 104 poor members of the Anna Labour Union. She will also release a book in Tamil Vallal Thilagam MGR. From the party office, Sasikala will then proceed to the house where MGR stayed at Ramavaram where she will hoist the party flag and unveil a statue of the former Chief Minister. She will then inaugurate a seminar planned at the deaf and dumb school on the same campus. Party functionaries including ministers are expected to participate.  The party has also planned a series of events and cultural programmes across the state and also in other states where the party has a base between January 17 and 19 as part of centenary celebrations.
    Deepa to pay floral tributes
    Former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa Jayakumar who has been considered by a section of the party rank and file as the successor to Jayalalithaa will be paying tribute to the party founder at the MGR Memorial in T Nagar at 6.30 am following which she will pay tributes and respects to Jayalalithaa at the MGR Memorial on Marina beach at 7.30 am.  Later at 11 pm, Deepa will address the media at her residence where she is expected to make her announcement regarding her decision to join politics. She will interact with her supporters at the same venue at 4 pm after paying floral tributes to MGR and Jayalalithaa.
