Interior design shop owner detained for stabbing commercial tax officer

According to police sources, Murugan reacted badly when the officer allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs.15,000 from him for non-payment of taxes for a building roof design material. The commercial tax official had caught Murugan while transporting the material at T Nagar and demanded a bribe for releasing the material. Murugan was very much angered over his demands. Sources said the material was worth only Rs 2,000 and the official had sought a very high amount as bribe. Murugan and Thangavel had a verbal duel over the issue at the Commercial Taxes building and in a sudden fit of rage, Murugan pulled out a small knife and stabbed the officer. He then escaped from the spot. Thousand Lights police sources said the arrest of the accused would be registered on Wednesday.

The Adambakkam police on Tuesday arrested a 31-year-old youth on charges of abetting his wife’s suicide. They arrested K Gurumurthy, a resident of 6th Street, Balakrishnapuram, Adambakkam after his wife Subha (27) committed suicide by hanging at her house on Sunday. Police said Subha, who had married Gurumurthy six years ago, was dejected for a few weeks after the couple fought over some family issues. She ended her life on Sunday when she was alone. The police retrieved her body and conducted investigations. It was found that Gurumurthy had abetted the suicide and he was arrested.  Police said an RDO enquiry is also on. The couple got married only six years ago and they have two sons.
