Plea of ‘monkey killer’ for nod to write examination dismissed
The Madras High Court has refused to intervene in a plea moved by one of the medical student of Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, who was suspended for reportedly killing and burying a monkey on the college campus.

The suspended student Arun Louis Sasikumar, who is in his fourth year, had sought a direction to furnish the final examination application and enable him to write his exams. Justice B Rajendran who dismissed his plea, said “At this stage, the court would only direct the petitioner to approach the University by way of representation seeking permission to write exam.”
Also, the judge on recording the contention of Arun that January 12, 2017 is the last date for paying examination fees along with fine and the examination is scheduled to commence from February 1, 2017, said “Accordingly, this court directs the petitioner to give a representation immediately by January 6 for permission of the University to write the exam. On such receipt of the application, the University will consider the same independently as to whether the student, who involved in a crime at the stage of FIR can be permitted to write the examination and also with liberty keeping his results not published and whether all things could be decided by independently.”
As per the case, four students including Arun had killed and buried the monkey and based on a complaint the carcass of the monkey was exhumed and it was found that there were multiple fractures, the monkey’s hands were tied behind and a telephone cable was around the neck. The animal was beaten up and a rod was inserted from behind. However, Arun in his plea submitted that he was directed to appear and sign the statement dictated by the authorities as if he was involved in the incident. He also noted that he was not even allowed to put his defense properly and that the allegation of torturing the monkey and its consequential death are all false and incorrect.
Karti’s plea rejected
The HC has dismissed a batch of writ petitions moved by Advantage Strategic Consulting Pvt Ltd, including Karti Chidambaram, son of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, after holding that the issue involved in these petitions were related to 2G spectrum case. Justice B Rajendran while dismissing the pleas held that “since the investigation carried on by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is being monitored by the SC, it is too early for this court to take up these writ petitions for adjudication on merits. The writ petitions are dismissed as they are not maintainable before this court.” Advantage Strategic Consulting Pvt Ltd, represented by its director Ravi Viswanathan and Karti Chidambaram, had sought to declare the warrants and the search operations conducted by the ED on its premises of the company and the proceedings as ultra vires.
