Rajasekar (25) of Vyasarpadi, who was a regular offender, was caught in the process of breaking open a newly-built house in Venkateshwara Nagar in Morai Village, Avadi on Tuesday night. A few of the neighbours who chanced upon his burglary attempt raised an alarm and began chasing him.

In an effort to flee from the residents, Rajasekar climbed on to the terrace of the single storey house and jumped to the next terrace in cinematic fashion. But his lunge fell short landing him on the ground with a broken leg.

Residents caught him and beat him up and later handed him over to the Avadi Tank Factory police station. He was treated at the Avadi Government Hospital and then remanded in Puzhal prison.

Police recovered Rs 12,000 from him. Police said he fell from a 20 feet high terrace and landed on hard ground and that broke his legs.

A habitual offender, who was married recently, Rajasekar has many cases against him in areas like Sholavaram, Red Hills and Pazhaverkadu.
