Anbumani Ramadoss, youth wing leader of PMK, in a statement said “the Income-Tax department has been raiding the houses of politicians and top bureaucrats after the Centre scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 from circulation. In such a condition, the department conducted surprise raids at Central Cooperative Bank in Salem on December 21 and the raid is continuing.” The raids have unearthed huge fraud in the bank. The officials have opened new accounts in various fictitious names after November 10 and received Rs 150 crore till December 5, Anubumani said.

“The real extent of the fraud will be known only after the I-T department concludes its raid,” he added. Stating that similar raids were conducted in Kumbakonam and Cuddalore district’s central banks, Anbumani said that the I-T department grilled the bank officials at Cuddalore Central bank, which was said to have received Rs 51 crore in the last four days alone. “It is a plain fact that all district central cooperative banks are being used to launder black money in the state. The I-T officials have raided only three central cooperative banks, the rest of the 23 banks were said to have received over Rs 2,500 crore of black money,” he said.

Demanding a probe by both I-T department and the RBI in the deposits in these banks, Anubumani said “Mostly politicians and Ministers have surrendered their old notes in such banks. It is a clear indication that the bigwigs target the cooperative banks to cover up their black money.”
