He also asked the Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who handles home portfolio, to pull back the policemen and use them on law and order duties. Stalin threatened to move the court if the government failed to do so. Referring to media reports, he said around 240 special policemen including a SP and four ASPs and DSPs each have been stationed at late Jayalalithaa’s residence. Stalin described it as an “insult” and added “there is none who has been democratically elected or a high ranking official residing at Poes Garden now to provide such elaborate security.”

He called the deployment ‘unlawful’ and wasting of police force when there were nearly 19,156 vacancies in the state.   Alleging that around 60 police personnel on duty at Poes Garden were complaining of double duty at CM O Panneerselvam’s residence and late Jayalalithaa’s residence, the DMK Treasurer demanded the DGP to prevent such violations immediately. Moreover, the allowance for the personnel deployed at Poes Garden had been more, he said. The cops were being paid Rs 6,000 risk allowance along with salary and allotted housing quarters of their choice, he added. Stalin said that such facilities were not being made available even to inspector level officers elsewhere in the state.
