KS Kandasamy, Deputy Commissioner (Works), GCC, told DTNext, that they have already identified 54 places and have instructed the public to dump the debris and foilage in these spots.

“All the 54 spots are located within the city limits and are easily accessible for all the residential areas. Around 19,000 health workers are involved in the cleaning process,” he said.

When asked about the time needed to complete the cleaning process he replied, “Since the strong winds uprooted a large number of trees, it will take another week to complete the cleaning process. If there is a need for identifying additional spots for dumping the debris, we will do it. We are continuously monitoring all the areas.”

Meanwhile residents have demanded the officials to expedite the cleaning works. B Varadharajan, president, Maduravaoyal Residents Welfare Federation, said “Though workers are taking up cleaning works in all the areas, the officials should increase the number of workers to speed up the process. It is highly appreciable that most of the residents themselves undertook such works and they helped corporation.”
