Kollywood comes to a halt shoots stopped, theatres closed

“We thought it wouldn’t be a safe bet to go ahead with the shoot as we are completely aware of the mood across the state,” said a source from a film’s unit. Abirami Ramanathan, President of Tamil Nadu Cinema Theatre Owners’ Federation and Chennai city film Exhibitors’ Association told DTNext , “Film shoots cannot happen as any unit will find it difficult to manage if violence erupts half way through the shoot.” When asked about theatres being shut across the city, he said, “We thought we could shut down the theatres from Sunday night. However, we later decided to screen the shows till Monday evening as we didn’t want to send out any wrong signals to the public.” Archana Kalpathi, CEO of AGS said, “We were screening our shows till 5pm on Monday evening. After the situation started getting tense, we shut down all our properties and no shows will be screened in AGS screens until further notice.” It looks like the situation in K’town will remain the same until the situation in the state comes back to normal.
